Singapore promoting tourism and discovery with Pokémon GO
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has teamed up with augmented reality (AR) company Niantic to promote tourism offerings through Pokémon GO.
The collaboration is part of the SingapoRediscovers campaign to support local business, which was launched in July 2020 by STB, Enterprise Singapore and Sentosa Development Corporation.
STB and Niantic will showcase tourism offerings with Pokémon GO, which encourages exploration, exercise and real-world social connections.
Players will be able to meet and capture Pokémon or engage in virtual Raids with other players at up to 300 new PokéStops and Gyms located at tourist destinations.
These include hotels, attractions, retailers, food outlets, and tour ticketing booths. STB is also planning to schedule special Raid Battles in some areas.
Singapore encourages exploration with Pokémon GO
“We are excited by this collaboration with Niantic, which allows us to connect with the passionate community of Pokémon GO players in a fun and innovative way,” said Lim Shoo Ling, brand director at STB.
“As they pursue their favorite Pokémon across Singapore, we hope players will explore our precincts, discover hidden gems, and support local business – while staying safe and observing the necessary precautions.”
Players arriving at PokéStops and Gyms on Pokémon GO will see an in-app banner promoting the SingapoRediscovers campaign.
Tapping on the banner takes players to the campaign microsite, which displays the SingapoRediscovers promotions available at tourist spots.
Players will discover hidden gems across Singapore
Pokémon GO encourages players to walk around and discover new things in their surroundings, which will help local businesses as users discover them.
“We are very excited to work with Singapore Tourism Board on this partnership,” said Gary Chang, APAC business development lead at Niantic.
“Our strength is to influence people to walk physically from location to location, and we are hoping to utilize this to encourage people to explore different parts of Singapore in-depth and boost domestic travel needs.”
Chester Zoo recently joined forces with Internet of Elephants to launch the Pokémon Go of wildlife, an AR app called Wildeverse.
