Disney World Announces Details for 50th Anniversary Celebration

The World’s Most Magical Celebration

Walt Disney World Resort will commemorate its 50th anniversary in 2021 with “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.” On Friday, Disney revealed brand new details hinting at some of the things guests can expect when the festivities begin later this year.

Start Date

The World’s Most Magical Celebration will kick off with plenty of “EARidescence” decor 50 years to the day of the resort’s opening on October 1, 2021. The 18-month event will feature a variety of new experiences at Walt Disney World Resort’s four theme parks.

Cinderella’s Castle

Fresh off of its royal makeover in 2020, Cinderella’s Castle will dazzle guests with new gold bunting and fanciful details, including a special 50th-anniversary crest and pixie dust. Each park’s most iconic site will be transformed into a “Beacon of Magic” at night, including Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom.

EPCOT

At EPCOT, new lights will shine across Spaceship Earth’s reflective panels, connecting to one another to resemble stars in the night sky. The new lighting, designed to be a symbol of optimism, will ultimately become a permanent feature and continue long after the celebration is over.

Hollywood Studios

The famed Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also take on a new look. This Beacon of Magic will be enhanced for the 50th-anniversary celebration in a way that evokes “the golden age of imagination and adventure,” Disney teased.

Animal Kingdom

Visitors to Disney’s Animal Kingdom will of course be drawn to the beloved Tree of Life, which will emit a warm light complemented by magical fireflies. The 145-foot attraction is the youngest of Disney’s Beacons of Magic, having opened in 1998.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse

Disney icons Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will host The World’s Most Magical Celebration while dressed in custom-made sparkling outfits that better suit the occasion. The celebratory new look features EARidescent fabric with gold highlights and embroidered impressions of Cinderella’s Castle backed by fireworks.
