Doha Hamad International Crowned World’s Best Airport For 2021

Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been crowned the world’s best airport, winning the award for the first time and beating out stiff competition – including serial winners Changi Airport in Singapore – in the process. Their success follows years of climbing the rankings, and is sure to be celebrated during what has been a tough year for the aviation industry.

Home to Qatar Airways – who were also crowned the world’s best airline just last month – Hamad International offers travelers a luxurious pre-flight experience and has all the amenities a traveler could ask for. Here’s a look at why the airport was crowned the world’s best, plus a look at the rest of the airports who featured on the list.

Hamad International Takes Top Spot – Information For Travelers

Hamad International Airport was given the title of world’s best airport by Skytrax, following a survey that was completed by passengers from more than 100 different countries. More than 500 airports were covered, with survey responses screened to ensure the results were fair and accurate. A wide range of questions were included, covering topics such as ease of access and transfer, helpfulness of staff, clarity of information and prices at the airport.

The award caps off a good year for the airport, and was the cherry on the cake following a surfeit of other awards earned following this year’s survey. Hamad International Airport also won the awards for the Best Airport in the Middle East, as well as the World’s Best Airport in the 25 to 35 million Passenger category, and also for the Best Airport Staff in the Middle East.

The award was warmly received by the airport. Speaking about the award, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, said:

“It is with great pride that we announce that Qatar’s Hamad International Airport has been named the World’s Best Airport at the Skytrax 2021 World Airport Awards. This is not only a truly remarkable achievement for HIA and the State of Qatar, but an endorsement from our travelers for our commitment to service excellence. HIA continues to serve as a global benchmark for airports around the world, thanks to the dedication and collaboration of our team and stakeholders. To this day, HIA’s crisis preparedness, business continuity strategy, and agile and effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic continue to be recognized by leading industry institutions. As we look towards the future, HIA remains devoted to boosting our efforts in providing the best airport experience to all our passengers.”

Together with Qatar Airways, the airport has endeavored to get travelers passing through the red-carpet treatment. Those transiting through the airport with Qatar Airways can take advantage of offers such as free accommodation, free food and complimentary tours of the city – factors and first impressions that are bound to have played a part in Hamad International’s success.

In winning the award, Hamad International Airport dethroned Singapore’s Changi Airport. The result comes as a shock, with Changi having won the top prize for the previous 8 years in a row and featuring in lists of the world’s best frequently. However, the Singaporean airport didn’t leave empty-handed, having won the awards for World’s Best Airport in the 10 to 15 million Passenger category, and took the awards for the World’s Best Airport Staff and the Best Airport Staff in Asia.
