Switzerland Lifts Quarantine Rule For Travellers

The Swiss Federal Council has decided to change the rules for entering Switzerland in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, including lifting the requirement for all visitors to be quarantined while tightening testing requirements. The Council confirmed in a press release that there will be no countries on the quarantine list as of the following day, Saturday.

“A stricter testing regime will now apply to all arrivals into Switzerland in order to continue to prevent the new Omicron variant from entering the country as far as possible.” “Those who have been vaccinated or who have recovered from the disease are also subject to this testing requirement,” the Council stated.

It goes on to say that because quarantine is no longer required, visitors will need to take a second test between the fourth and seventh day of their stay in Switzerland. The test, which can be a PCR or a rapid antigen, has become mandatory in order to detect infected people who would have tested negative in the first place. The Council also stated that travelers should cover the costs of the tests themselves.

Third-country visitors who have not been immunized against COVID-19 and wish to enter Switzerland for a short period of time will be denied entry. Only those who can show proof of employment or hardship are exempt.

Aside from travel restrictions to Switzerland, the Council has approved several additional measures in an effort to further limit the spread of the Coronavirus, particularly the newly discovered Omicron variant.
