These Are the Most Luxurious Cities Around the World

Can you guess which European destination took the top spot?

On your next vacation, do you need to be surrounded by luxury dining, shopping, and hotels? Then these are the places for you.

Money.co.uk published new research revealing the top 20 cities in the world with the highest level of luxury per square mile. To reach this conclusion, the website examined the number of high-end venues in a city, such as restaurants, five-star hotels, and designer shops, and then compared the total to the city’s size.

Surprisingly, Paris ranked first in terms of the number of luxury venues per square mile. In fact, regardless of city size, Paris comes out on top when it comes to the number of luxury venues.

“With 427 Michelin-starred restaurants, 108 designer stores, and 95 five-star hotels, the capital of France takes the crown as the world’s most luxurious city,” a spokesperson for the website said in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure. “Known as ‘The City of Light’ due to its illuminated boulevards and the gleaming Eiffel Tower, Paris is the ideal place for an opulent getaway, boasting more Cartier stores (a total of 24) and Michelin-starred restaurants than any other city in the world.”

Phuket, Thailand, took second place due to its 48 Michelin-starred restaurants within a 4.6-square-mile radius. Because of its 11 luxury venues per square mile, Brussels, Belgium came in third place. Geneva, the world’s timepiece and raclette capital, came in fourth with nine five-star hot spots per square mile. Another French destination, Cannes, home of the iconic film festival known for attracting Hollywood A-listers, rounded out the top five most luxurious cities in the world.

Lyon, a third French destination, was sixth on the list, followed by Kilkenny, Ireland, Athens, Greece, and New Delhi, India. Finally, Dubrovnik, Croatia, came in tenth place. Here you can find the full list, as well as information about how the study was conducted and a bit more about each destination.
