Estonia Lifts COVID-19 Certificate Requirement
Authorities in Estonia have decided to abolish the requirement to present proof of the COVID-19 certificate as part of the efforts to further ease the travel process.
Such a decision has been confirmed by the country’s government and has been taken after confirming that the epidemiological situation permits such a decision to be taken, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
In addition, authorities in Estonia have also announced that the restrictions imposed after 23:00 have also been lifted.
However, authorities in the Baltic State have announced that the requirement to wear a face mask indoors remains effective. In addition, they have clarified that travel isolation rules will also apply while stressing that travel restrictions must also be considered when travelling.
“We have promised that corona restrictions will not apply in Estonia for more than a day. I know that many have been waiting for the abolition of the COVID certification requirement and the 11 PM restriction on entertainment establishments. And many have contributed to this common goal. Now it’s here,” Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas pointed out in this regard.
Kallas has stressed that wearing a mask, completing the immunisation process against the virus and also taking a booster shot plays an important role at present while she has thanked all citizens for their responsible behaviour.
Authorities in Estonia have registered a total of 532,089 cases of COVID-19 infection since the start of the pandemic, while2,359 people have died during the same period, based on the data provided by the World Health Organization.
The same source shows that in the last seven days, authorities in Estonia have reported a total of 14,987 cases of COVID-19 and a total of 66 deaths.
However, despite such figures, authorities in Estonia have decided to consider the virus more like an endemic disease and thus ease the rules imposed to halt its further spread, following the example of other European countries.
Last month, Estonia’s government announced that it permitted the entry of arrivals from European Union countries by providing a COVID-19 certificate that shows they have been vaccinated against the virus.
At the same time, authorities in Estonia announced that those who have not been vaccinated against the virus would be allowed to enter the country by presenting a negative result of the Coronavirus test taken pre-departure or undergo a COVID-19 test upon entering Estonia and follow quarantine rules until the test result is issued.
However, after confirming that the epidemiological situation has ameliorated in many European countries, authorities in Estonia have decided to further relax their entry rules and other restrictions imposed due to the Coronavirus and its new strains.
