Slovakia Becomes The 28th Nation To Remove All Entry Requirements

Slovakia has become the 28th nation worldwide to remove all COVID-19 entry requirements.

The move means travelers don’t need to undergo COVID-19 testing, need for quarantine, and show proof of vaccination to enter.

Slovakia joins the following list of nations that have removed all COVID-19 restrictions:

The New Entry Requirements

As of April 6, 2022, all travelers—regardless of vaccination status—no longer need to quarantine or complete the eHranica form.

The Slovakian Public Health Authority said: “We still recommend being cautious, following one’s health conditions and in case of Covid symptoms, contacting a GP or pediatrician,”

Before this announcement, all unvaccinated tourists had to undergo mandatory quarantine on arrival. They also had to complete the eHranica form; the Slovakian version of a passenger locator form.

It’s excellent news for eager travelers and yet another EU nation that has made the progressive move to abolish all pandemic-related restrictions.

The Internal Restrictions In Slovakia

So if Slovakia is now on your travel list, what’s the situation like once you’re there?

Well, Slovakia has dropped its mandatory mask mandate in most indoor public places, like some shops, museums, restaurants, hotels, etc. Previously, all travelers had to wear masks if they weren’t two meters away from other humans. Slovakia, however, will maintain its mask mandate at mass events—such as football matches.

The Public Health Authority also says masks are still mandatory in certain indoor areas, including offices, workplaces, public transport, and when traveling in taxis.

However, internal restrictions remain minimal in Slovakia. On March 14, Slovakia removed most COVID-19 restrictions, including their internal vaccine passport, which was the requirement to show proof of vaccination to enter hotels, restaurants, taxis, and other services.

From January 25, the self-isolation period in Slovakia is 5 days if you test positive for COVID-19. The period starts from the day you experience symptoms or when you took your test.

The Slovakian authorities suggest travelers should inform anyone they have been in contact with (in the previous 2 days.) If travelers show no symptoms during the final 24 hours of their 5-day self-isolation, they can end mandatory quarantine.

The Slovak Public Health Authority suggests travelers have come into close contact with people in the last 2 days if they were not wearing an FFP2-standard facemask and:

Were in direct physical contact
Spent more than five minutes at a distance of fewer than two meters
Spent more than five minutes inside or in an enclosed space
Traveled on the same means of transport for more than five minutes

Some European nations, such as England, Sweden, and Norway, have removed the requirement to self-isolate if someone tests positive for COVID-19; however, Slovakia is yet to remove this internal requirement.

The COVID-19 Situation In Slovakia

Following a massive spike in cases recently, Slovakia is witnessing a sharp decline in COVID-19 case numbers. The 7-day case average in February was 21,800. On April 5, 2022, the 7-day case average was only 6,021.

Slovakia has recorded 2.47 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, including an unfortunate 19,462 deaths. However, Slovakia has fully vaccinated 50.6% of its entire population.

What Is Slovakia Known For?

Slovakia isn’t one of the most popular European destinations. Still, it’s very popular with backpackers traveling through Europe. Once part of Czechoslovakia, Slovakia is home to stunning mountains, dense forests, and hundreds of caves. The nation also has many UNESCO-protected sites.

Bratislava, the nation’s capital city, is an ancient city that became well known after the movie Hostel, a popular horror film.

The country is superb for anyone who loves nature, history, and a destination with fewer tourists and no hustle and bustle.
