South Korea to ease travel restrictions said on Friday.

On May 23, the government will accept negative rapid antigen tests in addition to RT-PCR results for travelers to South Korea.

Still, medical professionals must carry out rapid antigen tests 24 hours before arrival in South Korea.

Beginning June 1, international arrivals will undergo a PCR test within three days of their entry into South Korea.

Currently, the mandatory test requires on the day of arrival.

South Korea is set to increase the number of weekly flights on international routes to 762 in June from 420 in April and 532 in May amid growing air travel demand, Interior Minister Lee Sang-min.

The decision came as South Korea’s new daily infections have been on a downward trend in recent weeks after peaking at over 620,000 on March 17 amid the spread of the Omicron variant.

The government eased the outdoor mask mandate on May 2, except for large gatherings of 50 or more, as it is moving toward a return to normalcy.

The indoor mask mandate remains in effect.

South Korea to increase international flights to meet travel demand

South Korea has decided to add 230 international flights to meet rising travel demand as the pandemic weakens.
With the addition, the number of weekly international flights will come to 762 in June, up from 532 in May and 420 in April, Interior Minister Lee Sang-min said during a COVID-19 response meeting on Friday.

Even after the country lifted social distancing rules and the outdoor mask mandate, the number of daily COVID-19 cases has stayed relatively low.

According to Lee, the weekly average number of infections reported between Thursday and Friday last week decreased by 12.7 percent per week.
