British Airways to resume flights to China

British Airways will resume flights between the UK and mainland China, with plans to reinstate services from its London Heathrow hub to Shanghai and Beijing as part of its summer 2023 schedule.

From 23 April, the UK carrier will operate daily flights between London Heathrow and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while flights to Beijing Daxing Airport will commence on 3 June and operate four times per week.

British Airways head of sales, Asia Pacific, Noella Ferns, said: “We can’t wait to welcome our customers back on board our flights from Shanghai and Beijing. We have an incredibly rich history of flying to mainland China, having connected the two countries for more than 40 years.”

British Airways is the latest airline to announce its return to mainland China following the relaxation of the country’s strict zero-Covid policy last month, marking the end of travel restrictions and quarantine for incoming visitors.

Virgin Atlantic on Thursday (2 February) announced plans to restore its service from Heathrow to Shanghai from 1 May, while Middle Eastern carriers Emirates and Etihad recently announced an increase in flight frequencies to China.
