Carnival Cruise Line Becomes First to Sail 100 Million Guests
This week, Carnival Cruise Line became the first cruise line to embark 100 million passengers since its first voyage more than five decades ago.
Carnival President Christine Duffy paid a visit to Carnival Sunrise as guests boarded the ship at PortMiami on Thursday, where the cruise line’s 100th million guests, Debi and David Clifford of Ohio, and their family, were honored. The family was recognized with fanfare by Duffy and the ship’s team members, led by Captain Luca Cherchi. Other guests embarking on the cruise were able to take part in the festivities as well, even posing for special photos signifying how each is “One in 100 Million.”
“We’re the first cruise line to reach this incredible milestone of 100 million guests,” Duffy said in a statement. “There will undoubtedly be much more fun to come, as we continue to expand our operations at a rapid pace, with three ships joining our fleet by the spring of next year.”
The achievement comes as Carnival gears up to introduce Carnival Venezia, a new ship, in May. With Carnival Venezia, its New York offerings will transition from seasonal to year-round.
While Carnival Firenze, a sister ship to Carnival Venezia, will start operating year-round cruises from Long Beach, California in the spring of 2024, Carnival Jubilee, a third sister ship to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, will join the fleet and depart from Galveston, Texas later this year.
