China reopens to Filipino tourists, resumes visa issuances
The Chinese Embassy in Manila announced that China has reopened to foreign tourists, including Filipinos, and is now accepting visa applications for all types of visas. In a Facebook post, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian confirmed that from March 15, 2023, China is issuing tourism visas, port visas, and multiple visa-exemption policies. Applicants can apply for visas online through https://cova.mfa.gov.cn. Huang declared that the long wait is over, bringing relief to those eager to explore China’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking sights.
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian advised interested travelers to consult with the Chinese Embassy in Manila and its consulates in Cebu, Laoag, and Davao for detailed requirements and procedures. Furthermore, China will resume several visa-exemption policies, including Hainan, Shanghai, Guangdong from Hong Kong and Macau, and ASEAN tour groups to Guilin and Guangxi. This announcement comes three years after the Covid-19 pandemic struck and led China to impose one of the world’s most stringent lockdowns. Last month, China also permitted outbound group travel for Chinese citizens to over a dozen countries, including the Philippines, rekindling hopes for the pandemic-stricken tourism sector. According to Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime FlorCruz, most visa applicants are students, tourists, and business travelers. While the embassy is under pressure to process visas promptly, they also strive to ensure that only legitimate visitors are approved.
