Skyscanner, a popular travel website, conducted a survey with OnePoll to uncover which TV shows and movies from the past year are sparking the most travel inspiration among Americans. As we’ve seen over the years, our favorite on-screen productions have the power to introduce us to new and exciting destinations, and the results of the survey, conducted ahead of the 95th Academy Awards on March 12th, shed light on the top hits that are fueling our wanderlust.

According to the survey, a significant majority of Americans, specifically 63 percent, have been motivated to visit a destination due to a TV show or movie. The top two productions that have had the biggest impact on inspiring travel are The Banshees of Inisherin and Emily in Paris, with 49 percent of the vote. Although Ireland and Paris were already well-known and beloved tourist destinations, they are expected to become even more popular in the upcoming months. According to Laura Lindsay, the Destination & Travel Trends Expert at Skyscanner, set jetting, which involves drawing inspiration from your favorite TV show or movie for your next travel destination, has emerged as a popular travel trend in 2023. She stated in a press release that Skyscanner’s recent survey found that 63 percent of travelers have been influenced by their favorite on-screen destinations while selecting their next travel destination. Due to the pandemic and lockdown, many people spent more time watching shows and movies, providing them with an escape and inspiration to explore once the world reopened. With the latest hit TV shows and films, viewers are being transported to picturesque landscapes, stunning coastlines, pristine beaches, and vibrant cosmopolitan cities, making travel to these destinations a reality again.
