The wait is over! Tokyo annual fireworks fest is back!
The Sumida River Fireworks in Tokyo is a renowned firework spectacle, known as one of the oldest and most notable displays in Japan. The vibrant bursts of color are launched from barges anchored along the Sumida River, situated between Ryogoku and Asakusa, Tokyo. Although the ideal viewing spot is from the parks along the river, securing a seat can be challenging.
The organizer of a significant yearly firework festival in Tokyo has announced that the event will take place this summer, marking the first time in four years following multiple cancellations due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Tokyo’s Sumida River Fireworks Festival, a highly anticipated summer event, is scheduled to take place on July 29th. The festival has been given the go-ahead prior to the government’s plan to reclassify COVID-19 as a common disease in the upcoming month.
According to a spokesperson, “After a four-year hiatus, we hope that people can unwind and enjoy themselves at the event.”
The organizer has stated that approximately 20,000 fireworks will be launched during the event, with an estimated 950,000 individuals expected to attend the display.
On May 8th, when the government lowers the legal classification of COVID-19 to Class 5, similar to that of seasonal flu, the limitations on events will be lifted.
Under current legislation, the disease is classified as a special category equivalent to, or more stringent than Class 2. This category includes highly infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
The event’s organizer has announced that they will strictly adhere to the government’s guidelines to prevent the transmission of the virus.
