VR ‘Demon Slayer’ ride to debut in September at Universal Studios Japan.
Does Demon Slayer ring any bells to you? It should have by now because Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was the highest-grossing film of 2020, and became the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time, beating out Titanic and Spirited Away in Japan. You wouldn’t expect that type of achievement from an anime movie during a pandemic, but the fact that Demon Slayer became a hit overseas too shows that peoples’ love for anime should never be underestimated.
And to punctuate the success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, Universal Studios Japan has created a new ride in honour of the beloved anime. The new installation is called The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba XR Ride, which is set to operate from 17 Sept 2021 to 13 Feb 2022.
The Demon Slayer XR Ride in Universal Studios
The XR ride is an impressive virtual reality (VR) experience that will bring you to another world where you follow the story of Sumijiro, Inosuke, and Zeni. You start the adventure at Namihana Station, where passengers are going missing one after another. You will hear the haunting singing of Yume as you depart and uncover the mysteries lying before you.
According to the Universal Studios website, the Demon Slayer ride also includes a high-speed roller coaster that involves violent movements like sudden acceleration, climbing, and rolling. All passengers must wear the given goggles to enter the VR. People under 122cm are not allowed.
On top of the XR ride, Universal’s Hollywood Dream Ride is also getting a makeover tailored to Demon Slayer. The collaboration, called Devil’s Blade x Hollywood Dream The Ride, will feature voices of the Demon Slayer characters to make you feel that they’re with you on the exhilarating roller coaster!
We’re badly wishing we could experience this epic Demon Slayer ride in Universal Studios Japan! Here’s to hoping they’ll extend the ride until borders reopen to tourists.
