Fiji drops pre travel COVID-19 test requirement for the fully vaccinated
Travellers to Fiji who are fully vaccinated will no longer have to provide a negative COVID-19 test to enter the country from May 1, the Fijian government confirmed.
Previously, all travellers to the Pacific Island nation were required to obtain a negative RAT or PCR test result in the 24 hours prior to arrival, a requirement which has now been scrapped.
Travellers are still required to take a RAT test on their third day in the country and isolate for seven days if the test produced a positive result.
The Fijian ministry of tourism said the move to scrap pre-departure testing was keeping in line with other countries with high vaccination rates like Australia and Singapore, who have also eased their travel requirements.
You must still be fully vaccinated to travel to Fiji.
The age gap has now widened to allow vaccinated travellers from the age of 16, as more young people internationally obtain their final jab.
“These moves follow Fiji’s continued effort to strengthen its in-country testing programme and wider community surveillance efforts designed to ensure the safety of visitors and Fijians alike,” a statement from the ministry of tourism read.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO, Andre Viljoen welcomed the news adding it would make Fijian travel cheaper and more convenient for visitors.
“Fantastic news from the Fijian Government this morning to make travel to Fiji easier and safer as vaccination rates continue to climb in our key markets,” he said.
“From 1 May, travelling to Fiji will be as easy as showing proof of vaccination for those 16 years old and above, travel insurance, and confirmation of a RAT test booking from entrytestfiji.com within 48-72 hours of arrival.”
The move comes as more countries continue to open to the rest of the world after two years of ongoing travel restrictions.
