Lost Passport? Here’s What To Do

We have far too many fears as travelers. One of them is a flight delay, an itinerary error, a scam, and so on. But losing your passport is one of the toughest issues, especially if we just have a limited time before our trip overseas and it is the only legitimate ID we have. However, this is not the end of the story. Here are the steps you should take if you encounter this issue.

If you misplaced it in the Philippines

It is not as serious as being lost in the Philippines, but it is still a serious matter.

  1. The first step is to prepare your Affidavit of Loss and Police Report. A lawyer can provide you with an affidavit of loss. You must provide information such as your passport number and the date you misplaced your passport. It is also required for notarization. The police report can be obtained from the police station nearest to where you misplaced your passport. It is important to take action as soon as possible.
  2. You must prepare the first document that you submitted with your first passport application. This includes an application form, an NSO birth certificate, a confirmed appointment, and a valid ID.
  3. Make an appointment at a Department of Foreign and Affairs branch near you. (P.S if you can’t find the schedule we can assist you too) Repeat the same process you did last time when you applied for your first passport. Allow 15 days for the clearing period and passport issuing.

In Metro Manila, you must pay a regular processing cost or an express processing price to replace a lost or expired passport. Aside from that, you must pay a penalty cost.

The regular processing cost takes up to 20 days, whereas rush processing takes only 10 days.

If you lost Abroad

Imagine losing anything abroad. It’s frightening, but the good news is that there is a fix for every issue. even when the wait is lengthy. More important is to be calm while solving the problem.

  1. The first example applies here as well. The closest police station must provide you with a police report. It is best to prepare it as well if you have travel insurance that covers lost passports. The police report is essential for obtaining a temporary travel permit and will also serve as your pass at immigration.
  2. Make an appointment at the nearest Philippine embassy or consulate. (P.S if you need assistance regarding the Lost Passport we can assist you too.)
  3. Bring your police report, passport photos, a scanned or photocopy of your passport’s data page, as well as the other documents, on the day of your appointment. With such documents, you can apply for a new passport or get a temporary travel document. If you need a temporary travel document quickly or have run out of money, you will be provided one. You can use this to return to the Philippines and apply for a new passport.

The appearance is not required in other nations. You must pay for the requirements, and the amount of the payment varies by country. First, make sure the Philippine Embassy or Consulate of the nation you visited is aware of your situation.
