These Are the Most Powerful and Weakest Passports in 2022, First Quarter!

Jetsetters, the list of the most powerful passports for 2022 is finally here, courtesy of the Henley Passport Index. Having a powerful passport with a high index rating instantly allows the holder to travel to many different countries visa-free. This is a convenience that a lot of powerful passport holders may not even realise. So if you find yourself among the lucky ones who hold a passport with a high index rating, count your blessings. Your status is a far-fetched dream for many travellers.

Japan and Singapore have tied in first place, with its passport holders being able to visit 192 different countries visa-free. Last year, Japan held first place with 193 destinations, including one where their nationals could get a visa upon arrival. The rest of the list remained the same from last year’s most powerful passports.

Alas, this ranking inevitably shows the weakest and worst passport a traveller could have as well. Here are the 10 lowest-ranking passports in the world:

  1. North Korea (39 destinations)
  2. Nepal and Palestinian territories (37)
  3. Somalia (34)
  4. Yemen (33)
  5. Pakistan (31)
  6. Syria (29)
  7. Iraq (28)
  8. Afghanistan (26)
