Telcos to Improve Services in Sorsogon Tourist Sites

Yesterday, the Sorsogon provincial government reported that leading telecommunications companies in the Philippines have given a positive response to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s appeal to improve their services in significant tourist spots.

Bobby Gigantone, the head of the Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Office (SPTCAO), conveyed through the Philippine News Agency that following a committee meeting on Tuesday, the telecommunication companies pledged to enhance their signals and other services in the province.

According to Gigantone, representatives from Converge, Globe Telecom, and the Department Of Information And Communications Technology (DICT) Sorsogon City joined a meeting with Sorsogon provincial board members, led by Board Member Maria Ravanilla on Tuesday, which was productive. “We will have an ocular and site validation next week,” he added.

At the meeting, the resolution submitted by Ravanilla to the Sangguniang Panglungsod in March was discussed. The resolution urged telecommunication companies to install additional cellular sites to improve connectivity in significant tourist destinations in Sorsogon.

A section of the resolution stated that telecommunication has emerged as an extremely effective tool that has significantly revolutionized the tourism industry worldwide. Hence, it emphasized that enhancing network signal and connectivity in the key tourist spots in the province is crucial for the tourism industry’s growth in Sorsogon.

Gigantone expressed that he and his team considered this initiative as a vital move towards bolstering the tourism industry in their province and improving accessibility for their visitors.

n a correspondence, it was stated that Smart Communications completely backs the provincial board’s endeavors to enhance mobile internet services within their jurisdiction.

Smart Communications reported that they are currently implementing upgrades and planning future site expansion projects in the towns of Bulusan, Pilar, Matnog, Donsol, Gubat, and Sorsogon City.

In the beginning of this month, Sorsogon heightened its efforts in promoting tourism by launching a new campaign that utilizes the catchphrase, “Beautiful Sorsogon! – where beauty is everywhere.”

The objective of the initiative is to boost the visibility of the province’s tourist spots, local cuisine, and artisanal products. (PNA)
